Instify vs Vibe Kanban: Same Insight, Different Bets
Vibe Kanban and Instify share a core insight: AI coding agents belong on a board. A chat thread can’t tell you what’s running, what’s queued, or what shipped — columns can. From that shared premise, the two tools made opposite bets, and after Bloop’s shutdown left Vibe Kanban community-maintained, the difference between those bets is the whole decision. What Vibe Kanban is
An open-source (Apache 2.0) planning and review board for parallel coding agents, built around issues and workspaces, driven through a CLI plus a browser interface. It runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, supports Claude Code, Codex, and other agents, and it earned its users by being light, free, and unopinionated. Since Bloop shut down on April 10, 2026, the project is community-maintained — the code works today, and its future depends on volunteers keeping pace as the agent CLIs underneath it keep changing.
What Instify is
Instify is a Mac-native app where cards are stories, not issues: describe a feature in plain language and it becomes a structured story with a goal and acceptance criteria, shaped around your project’s tech stack. Run the card and Claude Code or Codex builds it; the board tracks the lifecycle with full run history, and quota-interrupted work queues and auto-resumes. Everything runs locally. There’s a company behind it whose job is to keep it working.
